The Coronavirus Follow-up Committee held a meeting at the Grand Serail headed by the Chairman and Major General Mahmoud Al-Asmar, the Secretary-General of the Supreme Defense Council, with the participation of Dr. Tarek Majzoub, Minister of Education and Higher Education, and the presence of Dr. Petra Khoury, Advisor to the Prime Minister for Health Affairs, Professor Fouad Ayoub, President of the Lebanese University (LU), and representatives from the Ministry of Public Health, and a number of LU deans and specialist doctors in university hospitals, to assess the educational and hospital situation in light of the pandemic outbreak.

The Committee issued the recommendations to:

·         Request from the Ministries of Public Health and Finance to accelerate the disbursement of funds owed to hospitals and the Lebanese Red Cross in order to be able to maintain medical and health readiness against COVID-19 and secure the rights of workers in this sector;

·         Request from the Ministry of Information to re-intensify awareness campaigns, developing a sense of responsibility among citizens, and warning that failure to comply with preventive measures and procedures will lead to the pandemic outbreak with the consequent negative repercussions on the Lebanese society;

·         Pursue the examinations followed up by the Ministry of Public Health and the Lebanese Red Cross, in all faculties of the Lebanese University and faculties of the Directorate of Vocational and Technical Education in accordance with the mechanism approved by the LU Presidency, which follows the utmost precaution and protection for students while maintaining the LU scientific and academic levels.
