On 20 May 2019, the President of the Lebanese University, Professor Fouad Ayoub, signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Industry, represented by Minister Wael Abou Faour, regarding cooperation between the two parties to develop national industries, improve product quality and protect consumers.
According to the memorandum, which was signed in the presence of the Minister of Education and Higher Education Akram Chehayeb, the Ministry of Industry undertakes to welcome Lebanese University students who wish to gain practical experience, receive professional training or prepare their master or doctoral theses on food security, provided that they perform the tasks requested by the Ministry, including accompanying its employees, assisting them in the periodic inspection of food establishments and verifying the safety of food in the local market. As for the Lebanese University, it undertakes to carry out the necessary professional and scientific studies and consultations at the Ministry of Industry according to an organizational framework established for this purpose.
It is noteworthy that, in 2016, the Lebanese University established the National Center for the Quality of Medicine, Food, Water and Chemicals, which received the ISO certificate, in April 2019, during its 2nd scientific conference.
