The Departments of Philosophy and Psychology of the Lebanese University - Faculty of Letters & Human Sciences (Branch 3) organized an open seminar on "Genetic Engineering and its Philosophical Aspects" given by Dr. Mustafa Alloush.
The seminar was attended by Dr. Jacqueline Ayoub, Director of the Faculty, Dr. Mustafa Helwa, General Secretary of the Philosophical Union, Dr. Omar Othman, Teaching Staff Representative, Dr. Ghinwa Alloush, Heads of Departments, and several professors and interested parties.
After a speech given by Dr. Ziad Mansour in which he dealt with Dr. Alloush's career as a former MP and physician, Dr. Alloush began his lecture by talking about nanotechnology, meaning the technology of every little thing, through an economic and scientific philosophy, and the topic of artificial intelligence and its connection to human intelligence.
During the lecture, Dr. Alloush talked about genetic changes and modifications to chickens, Dolly sheep and some mice, explaining the attempts of crossbreeding and modification that humans have been making since ancient times.
He also discussed scientific theories that ended with the conclusion that genetic units are the communication between different chemical and physical elements, which in 1993 led to the "Genome Project", or deciphering the genetic code of man, leading to the use of bacteria and germs to change genes.
At the end of the seminar, a trophy was presented to Dr. Alloush in honor of his scientific, medical and social efforts.
