The Faculty of Medical Sciences plays a leading role in medical education, clinical training and health care services in cooperation with local and international academic and health institutions.
Since its inception, the faculty has produced the best physicians with superior and advanced scientific skills, integrated training and optimal professional ethics.
In keeping with its mission and vision, the School of Medical Sciences is committed to working hard and diligently to achieve "full academic accreditation" in accordance with the requirements of the Education Committee for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), as achieving this accreditation will allow students and graduates to apply to U.S. medical schools and residency programs.
Accreditation will also confirm the quality of the faculty's programs and their compliance with the international standards of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). Therefore, the Faculty of Medical Sciences is working on the evaluation and development of existing curricula and is preparing a self-study report (SER) for submission to the Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Medical Education Programs (TEPDAD).
As part of the promotion of scientific research among its students and their preparation for the doctoral thesis, the faculty has introduced and developed new master's research programs including six new specializations in line with the requirements of global scientific and technological progress. Thus, this initiative encourages the professors to activate their participation in the scientific research process, knowing that the affiliation to these specializations is accessible to students coming from another institution.
The faculty is also working on the implementation of a "residency program" that offers training opportunities to graduates to support their development in the field of medical education. To this end, it seeks to strengthen cooperation and coordination with Lebanese hospitals, to develop its external relations by concluding a series of agreements with international universities and hospitals in the United States, Canada, Germany, Italy, France and Belgium, and to activate communication with former graduates.
The faculty is also making efforts in the empowerment of administrative staff members and in the development of its IT infrastructure, especially with regard to the technological system of information on students and graduates, due to its importance for the improvement of administrative tasks and the organizational efficiency of work.
In an important step, the Faculty of Medical Sciences is developing the Stem Cell Institute (LUSCI) to further the understanding of stem cell biology and promote excellence in their applications to human health.
This institute has been established to oversee the research of stem cell clinical trials to be submitted by faculty members in preparation for the development of new ethical stem cell-based medical treatments.
The Faculty of Medical Sciences is part of an ongoing renaissance movement to improve the quality of medical education and capacity building, enabling medical students and graduates to envision and believe in a better future.
