5/3/2019 - A cooperation between the Lebanese University and the Litani River Authority to study pollution problems

The President of the Lebanese University, Professor Fouad Ayoub, signed a cooperation agreement on 5 March 2019 with the General Director of the Litani River Authority, Dr. Sami Alawieh, in the Central Administration building, aimed at studying the pollution problems of the Litani Basin and Lake Qaraoun.

 

The event took place in the presence of Mrs. Dana Bou Raslan, Minister of Industry representative, officials and directors of the Litani River Authority, and the General Coordinator of the International Relations Office at the University, Prof. Zainab Saad, Dean of the Faculty of Public Health, Dr. Nina Zaidan, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Dr. Assem Al Kak, Dean of the Faculty of Dental Medicine, Dr. Toni Zeinoun, Director of the Food and Drug Quality Center, Dr. Nazih Bou Chahine, Food Committee Coordinator at the Faculty of Public Health, Dr. Fatina Suleiman, and a number of professors and the media.

 

The agreement aims to develop joint studies, conduct the analyzes and lab tests required to treat pollution of the Litani River water and its environment, in the laboratories of the Lebanese University, especially the Water, Food and Drug Laboratory. It also aims to exchange information, conduct joint research and involve specialists from the two teams in workshops and training on irrigation and hydropower generation projects, and other related topics.

 

Professor Ayoub emphasized that the Lebanese University, which is the largest host for a number of researchers, experts and specialists in environment sciences, water, food and medicine, seeks through this agreement to strengthen cooperation with national institutions.

 

Dr. Sami Alawieh emphasized that this agreement could reduce the billions of budgets allocated to clean up the Litani River. He added that the Authority will place all its facilities and laboratories at the disposal of LU professors and students.
