The "Hafez Kobeissi Prize for Excellence in Scientific Research" will be awarded on a bi-annual basis as of 25 May 2002 to the best original scientific publication from Lebanon.

The award is in memory of Professor Hafez kobeissi who dedicated his life to furthering scientific research in Lebanon. An International Committee has already been formed for the selection of the prize-winning publication.

Publications with the nominations should be submitted, together with a current C.V. of the investigator(s) not later than 31 December 2001. All documents should be submitted in duplicates to the following address:

The winner will be awarded the "Hafez Kobeissi Prize for Excellence in scientific Research" in addition to a financial award of 7,500,000 L.L.

The Prize-winning publication will be formally announced during a special Prize Giving Ceremony on 25 May 2002.

• The subject matter of the scientific publication should be in basic sciences
  
  
• The principal investigator should be Lebanese working in a Lebanese institution
  
  
• The publication should be in a peer-reviewed and well-recognized journal
  
  
• Publications out during 2000 - 2001 will be considered for the first award
